Greetings from the New Principal

Posted by Dawn Hickman on 8/1/2019

Greetings East Elementary Families:

It is my pleasure and honor to introduce myself as principal of East Elementary School.   I am extremely proud and excited to join this K-1 school community and to support our students and their families.

This is the start of my 25th year in education.  My career began in the Troy School District as an elementary teacher.  During my eighteen years with the Troy School District, I taught first, second, and third grade.  In addition to my classroom teaching, I served as grade-level department head, CTA president, and represented the primary grades in many building and district level leadership roles.

I joined the Wright City School District as the Instructional Technology Facilitator leading students and staff towards a richer technology learning environment.  During this time, I have had the pleasure of working with staff, students, and families, but I quickly fell in love with East Elementary, its staff, and its students.  As East principal, I am dedicated to continuing our students’ successes and will strive to continue the positive relationships, rigorous learning, and the incredible East environment that encourages our students to celebrate their unique strengths.

Like you, I am a parent as well.  My husband Tim and I have been married for twenty-two years and have three sons.  Brendon, our oldest, and Ian, our second oldest will be heading off to college the very day many of your children will be starting their school adventures here at East Elementary.  As I watch him drive off for his new adventure that morning, I know I will be feeling the same mixture of pride, sadness, and joy that most of you will be feeling when you drop your children off for their new adventure here with us  Dylan, our youngest, is going to be a freshman here at WCHS and loves RC cars, airplanes, inventing and creating things he has designed.  Recently we moved into a new house and welcomed my mom to live with as well which is another adventure we are all excited to share together.  My family is something that truly blesses my life and being a part of the East family makes my life that much richer.

I view education as a lifelong process, and I will continue to learn much about our special K-1 building of East Elementary in this year and in the years to come.   Most importantly, I bring a belief that the students are at the center of all school-related decisions.  I am excited to bring my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students.  Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.  I look forward to the collaboration and support we will be able to give each other.

I am here to make every effort to help your child reach his/her fullest potential.  I vow to give my all to our students’, and I will request the same efforts from our staff and school community.  Together we will continue to move East Elementary School students through a rich learning environment guided with love and support toward a bright future

Thank you,

Dawn Hickman
